Canvas Select Object

Modified on Tue, 29 Oct at 3:06 PM

The Select Object feature makes it easy to select specific objects within an image and instantly convert them into editable layers. Select Object combines with the Control Canvas and Layers to create an unmatched level of editing control. With it, you can fine-tune specific image elements through inpainting, control layers, and image transformations directly on raster elements.

What does Select Object do?

Select Object makes isolating image elements easy. By adding inclusion and exclusion points to any object in an image, you can segment objects from the rest of the image. Once an object is isolated with Select Object, you can adjust it independently, using inpaint masks, control layers, or image transformations without affecting the rest of the image.

You can see examples of Select Object use cases in the first 5 minutes of the video below.

When would I use Select Object?

Here’s some ways we’re seeing users use Select Object:

  • Change Backgrounds Easily: Replace backgrounds without altering your subject. Great for shifting moods or creating new settings.
  • Refine Objects Without Impacting the Background: Adjust images or other objects independently of their background.
  • Duplicate and Reposition Elements: Like an object in your image? Copy and reposition it within the canvas. Select Object allows you to duplicate and move elements in seconds.
  • Segment 3D Visualizations for Placement in New Environments: Isolate elements within 3D renderings to place them in different contexts.
  • Apply Regional Reference Images: Use regional references to influence specific image areas.

How to use Select Object?

To select an object in a layer, right-click on the image / layer and select the 'Select Object' item from the menu.

Once the Select Object box appears, you can select the objects in the image to include. The 'Auto Process' toggle will allow the model to identify the objects you have selected to include.

Alternatively, you can select a portion of the image to remove by adding an inclusion point on the desired area and selecting the 'Invert Selection' toggle.

When you are satisfied with the object selection, you can save the object as a new layer and continue your creative process.
