Upscaling images in Invoke is simple. You’ll find upscaling settings in the Upscaling tab in your studio. Upscaling allows you to transform low-resolution images into high-quality, high-resolution imagery. This guide will describe each feature, explaining how they affect generation, and show how to navigate and use Upscaling.

Access

Access the Upscaling tool by clicking on the Upscaling tab located between Canvas tab and Workflow tab on the left of your screen.

Upscaling an image

  1. Drop Your Image: Start by dragging and dropping your image into the upscale box, or click the Upload icon and select an image from your hard drive.
  2. Select Your Settings: Choose the upscale model and set the scale. For example, set the scale to 4X to create an image 4 times the size of the original image.
  3. Enter a Prompt: Provide a prompt that describes the desired output.

Controlling the upscale process

Creativity Slider

  • Controls how creative and different from your original image the output will be based on your prompt.
  • Setting this slider to a higher value (e.g., 10) will infuse more creativity, resulting in an output that may differ significantly from the original image.

Structure Slider

  • Ensures the upscaling process matches the general shape and position of different elements of your original image.
  • Setting this slider to a higher value (e.g., 10) will rigidly control the upscaling process, keeping the output very similar to the original image.

Generation Model

  • Allows you to change the AI model used in the generation process (distinct from the upscaling model).
  • Different AI models can produce varying results. Experimenting with different models can help achieve the desired output.

Advanced Options

  • Scheduler: For upscaling, the K DPM 2 scheduler is recommended for getting extra detail.
  • Steps and CFG Scale: Adjust these settings to fine-tune the generation process. These settings work similarly to other generation tasks.

Upscaling in a different style

  1. Provide a New Prompt: Start by providing a new prompt that describes the desired artistic style for the upscaled image. For example, if you want a painterly look, your prompt might include terms like "painterly," "brush strokes," or "oil painting."
  2. Adjust Creativity Slider: Increase the creativity slider to allow more creative freedom. A higher value (e.g., 3 or 4) will enable the AI to interpret your prompt more freely and deviate from the original image's details.
  3. Adjust Structure Slider: Decrease the structure slider to give the upscaling process more freedom to reimagine the composition. A lower value (e.g., -2 or -3) allows the AI to change the general shape and position of elements in the image according to the new style.
  4. Invoke the Upscaling: Generate the image with the new settings. Compare the newly generated image with previous outputs to see how the details and style have changed.

Example:

  1. Original Prompt: "A vibrant bird, detailed, high contrast, inviting warmth, photo-realistic."
  2. New Prompt: "A vibrant bird, detailed, brush strokes, oil painting, artistic."
  3. Adjust Sliders: Set creativity to 4 and structure to -3.
  4. Generate: Press Invoke and compare the new painterly style image with the original photo-realistic output.
